2006 Pancake Day

Tuesday

28th February 2006 at 11:00am

The Guildford Pancake Race

Hosted by the Charlotteville Jubilee Trust, it was held in the High Street

A Charity event to collect money for our new community centre at the Spike

and for Guildford Action for Community Care

Early campaigning and publicity meant that this years Pancake Race was much bigger than last years bringing in many more competitors and sponsors from shops and local business.  We had excellent coverage from the Surrey Advertiser and from 96.4 The Eagle who allowed us the us of PG for the morning.

All three local primary schools took part this year - Sandfield, Pewley Infants and Holy Trinity and all entrants from the schools were awarded with a badge and a complimentary book from Ottakers - thank you Ottakers once again for your support this year.

Another welcome sponsor who became involved in all aspects of the day from supporting us financially to running in the races and helping out was road builder Ringway Group.

Other backers included Gerrard, Sainsbury's and Swift Fire & Security of Fareham.

There were many prizes donated again this year including a pair of Guilfest tickets, our thanks to Tony Scott and a very robust toaster donated by the Post Office.

PG and Spectators eagerly wait for the first race

The fire service take on all comers as they romped home in the relay. Its amazing how fast you can run when a bloke in a skirt is chasing you!

Holy Trinity School Top Maths Group show  good formation as they charge down the street

Time for the housewives; this year some were actually female! (the two in the middle)

Nice toss madam - or is that sir.

Thanks to Dragons, the loser of the housewives race gets his prize - two months free membership to the local Dragons Health Club

Specky and the Womble (a long way from Wimbledon) go for a head to head and, as one would expect, Specky won.

All that keep fit at The Spectrum finally paid off.

To the victors the spoils.  Yet again this year Blue Watch of Guildford Fire Station cleaned up.  I guess the bear will be proudly pinned to the front of one of the fire tenders.

Our thanks to Tony Scott, Anne Milton MP, Diana Lockyer-Nibbs and Maddy &Margot for helping serve the best part of 300 Sainsbury's pancakes to the eagerly waiting public.

And, once again a big thank you to our many sponsors this year, including - and in no particular order

Ringway Group, Gerrard, Swift Fire & Security, Ottakers, Zoe Slater at Sainsbury's, Tony Scott, Post Office, Crabtree and Evelyn and the bloke who runs the fruit and veg. stall at Tunsgate who bailed us out with some lemons for the pancakes.
