2010 Events

We were very lucky that the Pranksters chose the Spike for their Play in a Day this year. Very appropriately they had chosen Jack London’s People of the Abyss, which tells of this journalist’s experience in disguise amongst the homeless of east London in 1903 and what a grim picture it paints of a very harsh way of life. A recommended read for anyone interested in the Poor Laws and the affect they had on the homeless. Money raised from the event was given to local charity Guildford Action who help to look after today’s homeless of Guildford.

A big thank you to the Pranksters for a very entertaining evening and for helping to raise nearly £140 for Guildford Action.

It’s Spooky Spike again. More scary this time kids!

Spooky Spike this year really ‘worked’ after complaints last year that some children didn’t find it scary enough, we emptied the basement and brought in the heavy ammunition. Ghouls galore! We had children refusing to go any further, many leaving in tears, many saw the treasure hunt through to the end and they were the lucky ones.

I’m a Celebrity’s got nothing on Spooky Spike.

We will be open again on Heritage Open Day this year. No need to book. The Spike will be open from 10:00 until 16:00. Tours will be on the hour and half past or when sufficient numbers are waiting. Tea, coffees, juice and light snacks will be available.

As part of the Guildford Summer Festival, our enactors will be donning their itchy clothes again to bring the general public two more life like enactments at 13:30 and 17:00. First rate entertainment for only £5.00 per head. Book through the Spike office 01483 569944.

General Election at the Spike. Open from 07:00 until 22:00.

On the Toby. The walk from Dorking to Guildford had fine weather and was a joy to take part in.
